LPC UWC פתח את שעריו למחזור הראשון של תלמידים בספטמבר 1992, ונחנך רשמית על ידי הוד מעלתו נסיך ווילס ב-6 בנובמבר 1992. הקולג' הוא השני שנפתח באסיה.
שלושה מאפיינים ייחודיים
- תוכנית ה-Quan Cai – דרך תוכנית ה-Quan Cai ('התפתחות האדם השלם'), ניתנת לתלמידים האחריות ליזום ולנהל פרויקטים, וגם להשתתף בתוכניות להתנדבות בקהילה המקומית.
- התרבות הסינית – הקולג' ממוקם בעיר תוססת הנמצאת "בצומת הדרכים של אסיה", וכך ניתנת לתלמידים ההזדמנות לפתח היכרות והבנה עמוקה של סין ואסיה, בין היתר גם דרך "שבוע הפרויקט".
- מיקום – הקמפוס ממוקם באזור שקט וירוק של הונג קונג, מוקף בעצים, הרים וחוף, ובו זמנית נמצא במרחק נסיעה קצרה ממחוזות גורדי השחקים הסואנים של העיר.
בכיתה
LPC UWC מציע את תוכנית הדיפלומה של ה-International Baccalaureate (IBDP). בנוסף לקורסים הסטנדרטיים, LPC UWC מציע לימודי סינית (מנדרינית), ספרדית, צרפתית, גאוגרפיה, מנהל עסקים, מדעי המדינה, מדעי הסביבה, תיאטרון ואומנות.
מחוץ לכיתה
תוכנית ה-Quan Cai היא חלק בלתי נפרד מחוויית הלימודים של התלמידים בקולג'. הקולג' מציע יותר מ-70 פעילויות, ביניהן קבוצות ספורט, פעילויות לתמיכה בקהילה ועוד תוכניות שקשורות או מהוות חלק מקבוצות או ארגונים בקהילה המקומית הרחבה יותר. בין המרכיבים השונים של תוכנית ה-Quan Cai, ניתן דגש על התנדבות בקהילה, והעלאת מודעות התלמידים לתפקידים שהם יכולים לקחת בהשגת שלום וקיימות. התוכניות ברובן מובלות על ידי התלמידים וכוללות:
- שירות קהילתי (למשל: ניטור אלמוגים יחד עם ה-WWF, תמיכה ועבודה עם עוזרי הבית בהונג קונג) .
- אומנות (לדוגמא: "בישול לאורח חיים בריא", ריקודי הדרקון המסורתיים, דיבייט).
- פעילויות גופניות (קייאקים, טיולים, קמפינג וטיפוס).
- שירות בקמפוס (קבוצת עזרה ראשונה, קבוצת התמיכה הטכנית, "אקולוגי בקמפוס", ומגזין Synergy).

הקמפוס
קהילת LPC UWC היא 100% בתנאי פנימייה. תלמידים גרים ב-4 מגורים הנמצאים בקמפוס, וכל אחד חולק את החדר עם עוד שלושה תלמידים. ככל שניתן, החדרים מורכבים משני תלמידי שנה שנייה (י"ב) ושני תלמידי שנה ראשונה (י"א), ששניים מהם מהונג קונג ושניים מהם מגיעים ממדינות שונות.
כל המורים במשרה מלאה גרים בקמפוס ומהווים חונכים. החונכים וקבוצות החניכה שלהם (כמו "כיתות אם") הם חלק משמעותי מקבוצות התמיכה בקולג' – הם מספקים הדרכה, אווירת "בית מחוץ לבית", כתף לבכות עליה בשעת צורך, וקבוצה שניתן לחלוק עימה חדשות טובות.
המתקנים בקמפוס כוללים אולם ספורט, אולם כנסים, מרכז ללימוד שלום, בריכת שחייה, מגרש טניס, מגרש כדורסל, חדר אוכל, ספרייה, כיתות לימוד ומעבדות.
מיקום גיאוגרפי
הקמפוס ממוקם בסביבתה היפה של Ma On Shan, ומשקיף על מימיו של Starfish Bay ו-Tolo Harbour. הקמפוס נמצא במרחק של פחות מ-10 דקות הליכה מתחנת הרכבת התחתית Wu Kai Sha, שהופך את מיקומו לנוח מאוד.

Three Unique Features
- Quan Cai Program - Through its Quan Cai (‘whole person development’) program, students are given the responsibility to initiate and run projects and participate in local community service.
- Chinese Culture - Located in a vibrant city which lies at the crossroads of Asia, students are given the opportunity to develop deeper understanding of China and Asia through Project Week and China Week.
- Location - The campus is located in a quiet and green haven of Hong Kong, surrounded by trees, mountains, and the beach, whilst simultaneously being only a short commute from the fast-paced skyscraper districts of the city.
In the Classroom
UWC LPC offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) curriculum. Alongside standard courses, UWC LPC offers Chinese, Mandarin, Spanish, French, Geography, Business Management, Political Studies, Environmental Systems and Societies, Theatre, Visual Arts.
Outside the Classroom
The “Quan Cai” (‘whole person development’) program is an integral part of the students’ learning experience. A total of more than 70 activities are offered, including 10 sports teams, 22 community support activities, and 30 others that are affiliated or connected to groups or organisations in the wider community. Among the different components of the Quan Cai program, emphasis is given to community service, raising students’ awareness of the roles they can take in achieving peace and sustainability. The activities are mostly student-led and include Community Service (i.e. Coral Monitoring, Working with Domestic Workers, Animal Rescue), Arts (i.e. Cooking for Healthy Lifestyle, Dragon Dance, Debate, Circus), Physical Activities (i.e. kayaking, hiking, camping and rock climbing), Campus Service (i.e First Aid group, Audio Visual team, Campus Ecologists, and Synergy magazine), China Week and Project Week, Cultural Evenings, Educational Peace Programs, Orientation Week.
Campus and Facilities
UWC LPC is a 100% residential community. Students live in 4 residences on campus, each of them sharing a room with three other students. Whenever possible, rooms are composed of two second year and two first year students, two from Hong Kong and two from different overseas regions. All full time teaching staff live on campus and are tutors. The tutors and the tutor groups are important lines of support providing guidance, a ‘home away from home’ atmosphere, a shoulder to cry in time of need and a group with whom to share good news. The campus also includes a sports hall, assembly hall, swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court, canteen, library, classrooms, and laboratories.
Geographic Setting
Situated in a beautiful setting in Ma On Shan, and overlooking the waters of Starfish Bay and Tolo Harbour, the school campus is less than 10 minutes’ walk from Wu Kai Sha MTR station, making its location very convenient.
Admissions
All Hong Kong applicants apply through the UWC Scholarship Scheme to any of the 17 United World Colleges around the world, including UWC LPC, as in the case of any other UWC school or college.
